Over the years, Azima and I have visited each other’s worlds, sharing music and poetry, food and Sufi practices. In between we tend the thread of our connection with varying degrees of communication and silence. A watercolor Azima made for me of the opening page of Rumi’s Mathnawi hangs above my writing desk, and her icon of Christ holding up his hand in a mudra of blessing is propped on the book shelf behind me. What strikes me most about Azima is how beautifully she embodies that which my own soul knew as a young girl yet had trouble manifesting: each of the creative arts are different languages with which to praise the Divine, and they are all interconnected. Azima sees creativity as a sacred stream that flows above our heads. Occasionally we are able to connect to it through music or painting, poetry or dance. The forms are exquisitely manifold, but the source is One.

Being at Melita’s concert was one of the most revealing experiences in my life, both as an artist and as a human being. After the concert I was speechless and had to hide my years of joy away from the crowd. I could feel the poems and the music in a way that I hadn’t experienced before, it was as if something came to visit us in the auditorium and left us with a wake of blissful peace and harmony

Melita Kolin has dedicated her life to a search for the numinous, in music, art and literature, and she has found an extraordinary expression for all three in her own gifts as musician, painter and writer.
These disciplines to which she has brought such gifts have all influenced her work, almost as though there are no boundaries to the quest, at the centre of which is a deep awareness of spirituality. There is always a fluidity in her search to find the “still centre of the turning world”, and the luminosity of her paintings is paralleled in her playing.
Moving from words to painting to music is a seamless canvas for her, and to all three she brings a rare creativity.

I've decided not to be fair, not to be impartial. I will try to express all my love and admiration for Melita. I can't think or write about Melita otherwise. Melita is a different person, special, almost indefinable, full of energy, humanity, depth and peace. With her intense gaze she is able to reach to the bottom of your soul. With her enormous capacity to pay attention and listen, she is able to offer you a comforting trust and love. By playing her music, she is able to bring you all its depth, to transport you to other worlds, to take you to your own inner space, to free you from your thoughts and to set you free, alone and in peace with yourself. In her recitals of music and poetry she brings you healing messages of peace and liberation. Being Melita's friend is a great privilege. Melita is for us, her friends, an invaluable vital reference, her company and her love are like a bath of joy, light, and vital energy. Listen to Melita and open your heart to her. It is one of the great privileges you can have in this life. Thank you always, Melita.

White lilies live in their delicate glass vase against a subtly black background, Sahara sands rise and roll like the sea, violin and sheet music, amid soft shades of brown, yellow and white, suggest the power and beauty of sound and the complex Shri Yantra Mandala, in rainbow pastel shades, dispenses mystical blessings upon my home. These and other images created by Melita Kolin, warm my heart and feed my senses every day.
In my memory and frequently recalled in perusing my collection of finely illustrated programmes are many years of inspiration stemming from unique concerts of poetry aligned with music, created and presented by the same multi-talented lady. It is impossible for me to convey in words the essence of these events, born of deep knowledge of music, poetry and the inner life and great professionalism in their presentation. They lift the soul into dimensions beyond expression.

I love working with Melita and I am astounded at the breath of her artistic spectrum as well as her talents. Besides being a pianist of the highest order, a translator of the great sufi master rumi, she is also an accomplished writer and an extremely talented and sought-after painter. I have two of her paintings in my collection and both possess a spiritual quality with great harmony of colour and form, her resulting work is best described as ethereal but of course the essence of it incorporates the breath of her talent, vision and her deep spiritual understanding.
